You died, but you're not popular so I don't care.

This just bugged me.

Yes, Micheal Jackson did die. Yes, he is the king of pop. Yes, his death was random. ...And yes, it's still in the news.

Yes, Farrah Fawcett did die. Yes, she is Charlie's angel. Yes, her death was expected soon. [old age and cancer]. No...she isn't still in the news. She really never was.

This doesn't just happen to celebrities. It happens every where. Even in my small town it did.

Jody Shadon Hash. She was my friend. She died in a house fire her sophomore year. She saved her little cousin. She got blankets and pillows and laid on top of him so he wouldn't die of smoke inhalation, like she did. He lived. She didn't. The news of her death stayed around for a week or so, then it drifted.

Adam Garcia. He wasn't my friend, but I didn't have a problem with him. He died his senior year. Two days after his birthday. He died on a hunting accident, the bullet went right through his stomach. His news is still around. And his death happened in April.

All of the above deaths are sad. But why is it that only the news of two of them stayed around? One word: Popularity.

I don't get that. They all had families, and they should all be remembered. But one shouldn't be remembered more than the other just because of popularity. What has this world come to?

Anyways, I just had to get that off of my chest, because it was bothering me. Everyone who dies should be remembered. What does everyone else think of this?

Another thing I would like people to answer me: before MJ's death, did you have even one song of his on your ipod? ...what about after his death? I am not going to lie: I had two songs of his on my Ipod. Because I liked his music before any other present day teen liked it. Now, I don't listen to it anymore, because I am different. I don't like being like everyone else. "Beat it" was one of my favorite songs, but now that it is popular again, I don't know....I just don't listen to it anymore...

  1. Michael Js's death raises a whole lot of questions about the nature of the world we live in. Everything about his death and his life, is, I believe, symptomatic of a deeply dysfunctional world. I think your post starts to touch on that. Well done for raising it.

  2. I agree with you, but I also think that the people who DO remember someone who has died are the ones who were closest to that person...in the end, it does not matter how many people remember you. What matters is that the people who do remember you, remember you for good reasons.

Also, if you like the song Beat It, you should not stop listening to it just because everyone is suddenly in love with it all over again. Yes, that is annoying. But that's the way people are. They start remembering when it's too late. What I'm trying to say is, don't let others ruin it for you. Don't change yourself just for the sake of being different.

    Peace <3

  3. I have listened to Micheal Jackson for years, and his death has not stopped that, he was an extremly talented man and just because he died is no reason for anyone to change their views on him...Your right though, its hard to be sympathetic of celebrities when family and friends die all the time..I just had my great uncle die, and it was tough to go through, but just think of how much harder it would have been if it had been a huge deal....I dont think publicizing death is a good idea. ever.

  4. I am so sorry about your best friend. Really. I am. I know what it's like to lose a best friend, and I am so sorry you had to go through it too.
I am so angry with popularity. RIP MJ. Whoa, for some reason this post is making something nag at the back of my mind, and I can't think of it. Ugh.
    God Bless,
    J
